IMPORTANT: Registration for Spring Soccer (Grades 1-8) will open on Wednesday, February 1st at 9am and will close on March 3rd. The cost of the registration is $50. PLEASE read the information below.
SPRING SOCCER LEAGUES
Registration for spring soccer (Grades 1-8) will open on Wednesday, February 1st at 9am.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Entry-level soccer program for youth in grades 1-8, who reside or attend school in Somerville. Teams play inter-town games with surrounding towns in a league administered by Bridgewater Recreation.
GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION: Although this is a recreational soccer program, the Somerville Recreation Department does require commitment from its participants. If a player shows up late or does not attend practices or games, they might not start a game and may perhaps get less playing time than those players who are committed to the program. Teams are formulated by the Recreation Department according to grade. Once a child is placed on a team, there will be no switching for that season for any reason. If there is a problem during the season with a coach or team, please contact the Recreation Department immediately to address the issue.
PRACTICES: Practices for all grades will take place one night per week after 5:30pm beginning in early April (weather permitting). All practices are held outdoors on various Somerville fields. They are scheduled based on availability of volunteer coaches and field availability. Participants will be contacted via their coach regarding program information prior to practice.
GAMES: Games are played at various Bridgewater fields (weather permitting) on Saturdays from April 22 – June 3. Coaches will distribute schedules once released.
For game cancellations, please call 908-526-7107, or visit www.bridgewaternj.gov (Bridgewater Recreation). These sites are only updated when there is a cancellation.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Team Jersey; Shin Guards; Cleats or Sneakers
Players should bring their own soccer ball, if possible (Gr 1 & 2 = Size #3 ball; 3rd to 6th Grade = Size #4 ball; 7th & 8th Grade = Size #5 ball)
Participants are prohibited from wearing jewelry, earrings, or casts while taking part in any recreational program.
Jerseys from prior seasons are permitted, or they can be purchased for $12.
COACHES: Volunteers are needed! New coaches must obtain the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Certification and submit a fingerprint/background check. If interested, please contact the Recreation Department.
COST: $50
Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Players will be waitlisted if a team is full or without a coach. No late registrations will be accepted. Registration will be open from Feb 1- Mar 3.=
